Our 2006 IRS Form 990 reflects that 85 cents of every donated dollar is used to directly benefit our programs and the patients we serve.

We are pleased to announce the support of a matching donor. For every dollar you donate to the Cool Kids Campaign, your donation will be matched!

The mission of the Cool Kids Campaign is to provide kids with cancer a higher quality of life for themselves and their families while facing the challenges of cancer.

From the beginning we have always made it our goal to have a direct impact on the children fighting cancer. In 2006, when we were trying to decide on a name for our new foundation, we tried to keep in mind that kids are kids regardless if they are sick or healthy. Hence, the Cool Kids name. Every kid wants to feel cool even if they don't feel well.

Every day, as we decide how to help these kids and best use our donated dollars we make our decisions based on whether our actions will directly affect a child and make them forget, at least for a little while, that they are fighting for their lives.

The Cool Kids Campaign is excited to announce a new partnership with McKesson Corporation.  In support of McKesson's National Volunteer Week, we will be working directly with 32,000 of their employees nationwide to create Cool Kids Care Packages for pediatric oncology patients. This April, McKesson employees and their children will be decorating 10,000 drawstring back-packs and stuffing them with items such as toys, pajamas, personal grooming items, blankets, etc. to help bring pediatric oncology patients comfort.

McKesson Corporation and the Cool Kids Campaign have set a goal of providing a backpack for every child currently being treated for cancer in every pediatric oncology hospital across the country.

New programs for 2008

Cool Kids Insurance Advocacy Program

In partnership with Group Insurance Solution, we will be developing literature to help newly diagnosed families better understand how to navigate and manage the often complicated health insurance processes.  These pamphlets will explain to them their rights and obligations as a patient and also help the uninsured and underinsured maximize the benefits that are due to them.  This program will also aid the families in dealing with existing insurance issues.  We are pleased to be working with Linda Novak MHP, a GISI Claims Resolutions Specialist, who has graciously volunteered her time and expertise.  Linda will be working as a direct liason between the families and the insurance companies to settle any issues or confusion.

Cool Kids Family Support Fund

With the outpouring of support we received at the end of 2007 we were able to start our Cool Kids Family Support Fund. With this fund, we will pay bills for families that are experiencing financial pressure due to their child's illness. We will also negotiate with creditors to lower payments and the amounts owed. We will be fine-tuning the parameters and application process for this fund in the Baltimore area. Once we feel confident with our screening process we will offer this aid on a national level.
