Cool Kids Café

The Cool Kids Cafe is the brainchild of Chris Gavin of Carroll County, Maryland. Chris's idea is for any group of children, whether a neigborhood, church group, scout troop, sports team, to get together and create their own mini-restaurant for one day. The kids devise the menu, the logo, budget, ads, uniforms, all of it!! Then on the scheduled day their parents, relatives and friends come to enjoy a meal out served and cooked by the kids! Once all the expenses are paid any profit and tips are then donated to the Cool Kids Campaign.

The very first Cool Kids Cafe was held on July 30, 2006 in Carroll County, Maryland. With the support of some very patient parents, these kids raised $2,000 for the Cool Kids Campaign! What a great feeling of accomplishment for these kids.

Churchville, MD Girl Scout Troop 2130 hosts its first Cool Kids Cafe! What a Great Time!

Quotes from Cool Kids Cafe hosts:
Michelle Gavin-parent
"In our busy lives, we are quick to squash kids' ideas and because of our schedules we find excuses why they can't do things like running restaurants for a day. I am so glad that Chris encouraged John and I to slow our lives down and to allow him to open Kids Kitchen on a hot summer day last year. Today, Christopher's crazy idea to run a restaurant for a day doesn't seem so crazy to me anymore. Thank you all for helping to make this dream a reality for all the kids who participatated."
Louise Scalzi- parent
"What a great way of learning to serve others and have fun in such a positive, productive way."
Comments from the kids:
"We thought it would be a fun thing to do with our neighborhood friends. We also wanted to help the kids with cancer." Hayley (8), Taylor (6)
"It was fun being part of a real restaurant. Also, the more kids that do it, the more money we get to give to kids with cancer."
